Orson Welles’ Classic Paul Masson Wine Advert

Here’s two very different sides of Orson Welles’ doomed relationship as a brand ambassador for Paul Masson wines.

Welles had something of a chequered career in later life, losing all his money, and was driven to appearing in terrible advert hawking any old rubbish – or making appearances on rubbish chat shows. Hence this advert for Paul Masson’s cheap plonk, which Welles later admitted to never drinking. Although on the occasions detailed below he’s certainly been knocking something back – reaching a level of broadcasted inebriation on a par with Oliver Reed and George Best in the second advert.

You will not watch the second without spraying coffee – or, indeed Paul Masson champagne – all over your keyboard, should you have either in your mouth at the time.
